Wherever you are in the world, whatever your background or cultural upbringing, Christmas time is a time for celebration. A celebration of life, love and laughter. A season of joy, goodwill and gratification and a moment for family, friends and associates alike, to gather together and create memories that last a lifetime.
There are few places on earth that capture that magical feeling of the holiday season quite like the tiny Indonesian Island of Bali; and less still Bali’s spiritual and cultural beating heart Ubud. But Suraj Melwani, co-founder of Bali’s leading resort in Ubud, Bisma Eight, believes that it is people that make the best injection of culture to any brand. It’s this belief that forms the foundation for a bountiful series of festive events across the entire Bisma Eight Group, as 2017 draws to a close and the New Year begins.
Situated 8º below the equator, tropical temperatures and lush green rice paddies are a given.
Aladdin tents and rustic-Ubud-styled decorations will set the seasonal tone, from Copper Kitchen & Bar to U-Town’s freshest hangout, Folk Pool & Gardens; and with 20 events planned between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, that feeling of an ‘Endless Summer Carnival’ and something to suit everyone is all but guaranteed, whichever venue takes your fancy.
Ubud’s only rooftop restaurant Copper Kitchen & Bar will see proceedings begin at 7pm on Christmas Eve, where guests are invited to sample Mrs. Clause’s home cooked 6 course dinner, whilst being entertained by the angelic voices of the local Balinese children's choir.
Sister nightspot, No Más has you covered if you want to ‘Jingle All The Way’ into the latter hours on Christmas Eve, with acoustic vibes and a happy hours from 9pm all night long.
Waking to the sound of jungle chorus as the sun kisses your face might be second only to a lazy Christmas morning breakfast, direct to your spacious suite when staying with Bisma Eight; and not one to let Santa take all the credit on the 25th, Mrs. Clause is back in the driving seat for a 4 course traditional Christmas Day lunch from 12pm - 3pm at Copper Kitchen & Bar.
If a less traditional dinner is more in-keeping with your idea of Christmas Day heaven, then take a mid-morning meander towards the centre of Ubud for a poolside BBQ at Folk Pool & Gardens - or better still, why not do both? Either way, No Más comes alive again from 9pm for ‘White Christmas’ including live music entertainment from Siji band.
Tuesday 26th - Saturday 30th December:
The week between Christmas and New Year is always a ‘what to do’ time of year, but don’t worry we’ve thought of everything for you.
Pitting together the nuances of yesterday against the refinements of today to create a charming clash of cultures, Folk Pool & Gardens opens from 10am on the 26th December, and you can choose to wash down the morning after the night before with happy hour specials on red and white Sangria, or simply while away the hours hidden behind the cabana curtain, before heading back to Copper for a traditional Balinese inspired dinner from 7pm.
The rest of the week continues to delight, and after you’re done exploring Ubud’s many temples and eclectic markets be sure to make your way through the continuing list of events between Copper Kitchen & Bar and the Pool & Gardens at Folk.
Highlights include a day long Ladies special ‘Alice in The Gardens’ on the 27th and the now iconic Pool-A-Palooza on the 30th at Folk Pool & Gardens, where kid’s and grownups can enjoy a poolside picnic and ambient tunes all day long.
An Archipelago inspired 6 course degustation on the 28th brings things back to Copper, followed by live Steak and Seafood Carnival nights on the 29th and 30th respectively; building up eager anticipation for the Endless Summer NYE shenanigans that promise to bring in the New Year with a bang.
New Year's Eve:
All of the above may seem pretty hectic, but don’t be fooled! Bisma Eight and the Bisma Eight family are all about slowing down; and if you’re still exhausted by the busy schedule for the end of the year, you can always spend your days with a book and a slow cocktail, nestled comfortably alongside one of the 8 best pools in the world as deemed by Mr. Porter magazine. Or you might decide to get away from the midday heat with a Matcha Latte from Bisma Eight’s very own library cafe.
Whatever you decide be sure and ready for New Year’s Eve as the ‘Endless Summer Carnival’ really comes alive.
Warming things up from 3pm on the 31st, Folk Pool & Garden host their Endless Summer NYE Pool Party with tunes and chilled vibes from resident DJ Ebes until 7pm. Copper Kitchen & Bar Executive Chef Ben McRae promises to fuel your New Year celebrations with his mouthwatering 7 course finest on the rooftop until 10pm, and DJ Ebes stumbles across U-town to keep you going as one year becomes another, until 1am.
Let’s face it, by this point you want to get behind the bar and have a go for yourself right? Well, bring in 2018 doing what you always wanted and get behind the bar with Copper’s best barmen and women from 12am and feel like a world class mixologist, even if just for one night.
Still going? You’re not the only one. No Más are having their own party over on Jalan Monkey Forest. The ‘Sunday Soul - NYE Edition’ with live music and guest DJ begins at 9pm and keeps on going until you stop asking “What time is it?”
You see, we told you it would be a festive season to remember, and the souvenirs that you’re certain to take home from the experiences you’ll share can’t be bought in any other establishment in U- Town. Trust us - we’ve checked.
We guess there is only one thing left to say - Have you booked your flights yet?
